Maailman Laadukkain Höntsäfudis

“The world’s finest casual football” — Helsinki, since 2009.

How it started

MLHF began as a kickabout. Through the summers a loose group met on the grass pitches at Tapuli — different faces from week to week, no structure and no league. It had been running for some time before anyone thought of it as a club.

Janne Raatikainen joined in 2009 through a work colleague and became one of the most active members. Over the following years the original group gradually gave way to a new generation of players, and the standard of the football kept climbing.

Competitive football came later. In 2015 four people formed the club’s first association and MLHF entered the Finnish FA league system. Janne is the only one of those four still involved today. In 2020 that association was wound up and MLHF Football Club ry founded in its place — the club needed a structure that fit the Finnish FA as it moved from recreational football towards a competitive setup.

The founding year on the crest is 2009, not 2015. That is where the roots are, and where the core of the player base first came together. The original association and its history are still a large part of who the club is — and the casual side of the game never disappeared.

The original idea behind MLHF is still there: getting people together, playing football and having a good time.

The name

Maailman Laadukkain Höntsäfudis — roughly, the world’s finest casual football. The group was allowed to keep its original name when it became a club. It was first written Maailman Laadukkain Höntsä Fudis, spelling mistake and all; it was later tidied into the single word it is today.

The club today

More than 120 members. Five teams through the summer and two or three futsal sides through the winter, across men’s and women’s football — from the men’s fifth division down through recreational 11-a-side.

Where we play

Myllypuro is the club’s home ground — the venue registered to MLHF with the Football Association of Finland. Around it the club trains and plays across the city, at whichever pitches and halls suit the side and the season: outdoors through the summer, indoors once futsal starts. The fixture list always names the venue for each match.
